WORLD-CLASS PADDLING INSTRUCTION FOR YOUR HOME SCREEN
Mark and Becky Molina, well-known paddling instructors who have between them won numerous national and international competitions for canoe and kayak paddling, introduce the first comprehensive instructional videos on safety and rescue available in both DVD and VHS formats. These videos, one each for canoeists and kayakers, are geared for beginning to intermediate paddlers on quiet water, and feature gear selection and safe operating practices.
The Prepared Paddler’s Guide to Canoe Safety & Rescue and The Prepared Paddler’s Guide to Kayak Safety & Rescue take the viewer through the process of deciding on gear appropriate to his or her needs and expected paddling conditions. Demonstration of techniques such as braces show how to avoid capsize. A number of rescue techniques are clearly demonstrated for a variety of instances where a paddler might be stranded or in distress. Both self-rescue and assisted rescue techniques are included. Various watercraft are represented, including solo and tandem boats. Although the instruction is comprehensive, it does not replace live instruction, which both videos are careful to mention.
Becky and Mark Molina are American Canoe Association Instructor Trainer Educators in canoeing as well as Instructor Trainers in basic kayaking, and Instructors in Open water Coastal Kayaking. Mark holds a Lakewater Level 2 Canoe Instructor rating from the Canadian National Kayaking Championships.
Karen Knight, ACA Instructor Trainer and Women’s National Freestyle Champion, says, “Mark and Becky are nationally acclaimed paddlers and instructors. Their passion for paddling and teaching, along with their depth of knowledge, analytical eye and desire to help others are only a few reasons why they are two of the best at what they do.”
The Molina’s have taught paddling, trained instructors, demonstrated and presented at venues throughout the U.S. and Canada, and in Europe. Mark received a 1998 ACA President’s award for his contributions to paddle sport. Becky is a primary author of the Special ACA Beginner’s Guide, and a contributing author to Paddling With Kids by Bruce Lessels and Karen Blom (AMC Books, 2001). The Molina’s are regular contributors to Paddler magazine, Adventure Kayak, Kanawa, and other paddle sport publications. They maintain a website with paddling information and a calendar of upcoming events. Visit them at www.canoeandkayak.cc.
The project was generously supported by numerous sponsors: Kayaks were donated by Current Designs and Klepper USA & Canada. Canoes were donated by Wenonah and Pakboat. PFD’s and drysuits were donated by Kokatat, and this video is supported by the American Canoe Association.
Backcountry Productions has for 15 years made documentary and instructional films.
